Chalazion (Stye)
What is a chalazion?
A chalazion is a painless lump in the upper or lower eyelid caused by obstruction of an oil producing gland. This often produces a swollen eyelid.
Why would a person keep getting these lumps?
Chalazia are often recurrent, especially in cases of poor lid hygiene or concurrent blepharitis. How are they treated?
About 25 percent of chalazia resolve spontaneously. As chalazia are deep under the skin, topical eyedrops will often not penetrate sufficiently.Try this :- apply a hot compress to open the glands for 15-20 minutes, then lightly massage the area to break and express the lump, up to four times a day.
However if this does not cause it to diminish or if it recurs, seek treatment from an ophthalmologist ( eye doctor). The doctor may need to drain it and give you antibiotics and antiinflammatory medications.
